Before Michael Cera starred in mega-hits Juno and Superbad, the typical star of a US teen movie was more likely to be the wonderfully horrible Steve Stifler from American Pie. Since Cera broke out from Arrested Development, lead teen males are now the types who wear newish Sonic Youth T-shirts, stare at their tennis shoes while muttering about Zooey Deschanel and pack as much charm as a destitute leprechaun. At first, Cera’s emergence was a huge victory for the geek: 15-year-old Decemberists fans finally had a hero just like them! But then he went and made Year Zero, Nick And Norah’s Infinite Playlist and Paper Heart and we went back to our working on our poetry.

Dude, this would be fantastic! We still don’t have a show that night, and talking to the Rev Youth folks has kinda fallen through (Parsa was helping us out, and I was gonna ask John one night but he was having a pretty rough time and it seemed inappropriate). I tried sending a message to the I Can Fly house, and I don’t think they ever got back to us. If it wouldn’t be too much trouble and you think you could finagle it, it would be really awesome to have an atlanta show that night. Also, we might be bringing a PA with us just in case there are nights where it’s needed. I’ll talk to Cameron and let you know. Thank you so much, Dakota!

whats with the missing NYC date?

I really wanted to play there. Last year we did and one of our guitarists blew his amp head up so we only got to play for five minutes, but people seemed into it and we had a great time. I asked everyone why we weren’t going again and they said something about how they didn’t want to be trekking through the cold…I dunno. Shit sucks.

Tour or just visit the west coast, please! You are just too cool to be so far away from me.

This warms mah heart! And we want to! I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, so I will take any excuse I can get to get back to the west coast. I love it so dearly. Hopefully we’re going to do a national tour next summer, so if that happens you will be posted (whoever you are).
